This is my Proposal written for ENGL393, a Professional Writing course focused on technical writing. I wrote my proposal on how more LGBTQ+ specific educational materials are needed in Campus Advocates Respond and Educate to Stop Violence (CARE)'s work at the University of Maryland, College Park. CARE provides therapy and services for survivors of power-based violence, such as relationship violence, stalking, sexual assault, and sexual harassment. They also provide education to the campus community about power-based violence and bystander intervention. I used to work for CARE both as a student and an employee in their education department and became very familiar with their educational services and programs, which is where I noticed the gap of needing more LGBTQ+ specific materials.

This provides an extensive writing sample for me considering both its length and the varying types of writing within it (e.g., cover letter, audience selection, main body essay with cited sources). I would like to become a researcher in the field of health behavior, and as a researcher, you need to use writing for several different parts of the research process. This includes research and grant proposals, which follow the same persuasive language and defense of filling a gap while tailoring to a specific audience, such as the funder. In addition, the actual content of the work demonstrates my ability to consider and identify gaps in inclusivity and diversity in public health-based programs.
