The time I spent learning and growing in the Boy Scouts is invaluable. While in the Boy Scouts, I learned what it meant to be a part of a team, gained valuable strategies for leading and guiding, and understood what it means to succeed through teamwork.

This particular project shows one of the milestones I reached towards achieving my Eagle Scout rank—the highest rank in scouting. The Eagle Scout Project (also referred to as an "Eagle Project") is a community service project developed from start to finish by an Eagle Scout candidate.
The official requirement for the Eagle Project is to "... plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious organization, any school, or your community ..." including the approval of a project proposal by committee and council.

My Eagle Project consisted of the removal and replacement of vegetation for my community's Elk's lodge. The project focused on two of the planter boxes, each spanning 50' by 5'. In each planter, the smaller plants (and two of the palm trees) were to be removed and replaced without damaging the original sprinkler system. After consulting various resources including landscapers, a plant nursery, and the local forestry service, the necessary materials were collected for the project. The workflow of the project started with a brief, but necessary safety talk for all those involved, the removal of all the smaller plants and the two palm trees from the planters, flagging and digging the holes for the new plants to sit (Iceberg roses and Birds of Paradise), planting the new plants and fertilizing the soil, pouring and spreading mulch on top of the soil, cleaning up the project area, and watering the new plants for the first time.
