This is a project I did for American Sign Language. I had to research the first deaf baseball player, Dummy Hoy. He faced a lot of adversity in his life but overall lived very successfully given the time when deaf people were not seen as equal human beings, but rather second-class citizens. This project required a lot of research and reading. We also had to think creatively on how to present all the information we learned. We were given a choice of either presenting a power point or writing a paper. The power point presentation was a lot more appealing as we could compile the information in a way that was appealing to the eye and could hold the attention of our audience more. This helped me learn how to better work PowerPoint. I was able to spend my time tracking Dummy Hoy’s life from the very beginning when he became Deaf at 2 years old, then onto how he started playing baseball and his record making seasons. It was a fun project to work on, the information was interesting and the options to make it my own was great.
