COVID-19, also known as Coronavirus, has grown into a pandemic in the last several months. Even as drastic measures are being installed to prevent the spread and transmission of this virus, medical institutions are already on the verge of being overrun. This virus, as well as other SARS-CoV-2 viruses, impacts the pulmonary system of the body, making ventilators essential pieces of equipment to those infected. However, traditional ventilators cost between $5,000 and $50,000. Furthermore, there are not enough ventilators to provide for those who need them. With this in mind, the North Carolina Defense Technology Transition Office (DEFTECH) has called for ”low-cost, non-FDA approved, mechanical ventilation support systems”. These systems need to be designed so they can be rapidly produced using widely available resources. With this in mind, we present two designs for a mechanical ventilation support system. The widely available resources aspect of this challenge is the most difficult aspect, as it is difficult to tell what will be available to any user. In each design, several options will be presented for each aspect of the system, allowing the user to customize the system based on whatever is available.
