This artifact is an infographic I made for my CCJS 342: Corrections class in Spring of 2021. Our assignment was to create an infographic to convey extensive and complex information on a range of corrections related topics to choose from in a simple and easy to understand way. I chose to do my info infographic on the demographics of solitary confinement, a topic that I feel is not discussed enough as it is a cruel and unusual practice. My professor, Dr. Ellis, helped me get it published in the online journal, American Anthropologist: https://www.americananthropologist.org/online-content/engaged-pedagogy-visual-essay
This artifact shows my ability to present detailed information in a simple and visually appealing way. I worked very hard on this project, changing the topic and restarting it several times over until I created this infographic. I am very proud of my work here as it is detailed yet simple and easy to understand at a glance, providing readers with a wide range of knowledge on what type of people are being held in solitary in only a couple of minutes. I was able to consolidate information form over a half dozen sources in a single page without huge walls of text. This shows my ability to utilize other forms of media to help convey information I am passionate about sharing. It also shows how my hard work was appreciated to the point my instructor helped me, along with several other students, publish it.
