Though the name originates from a Movie and hit Netflix TV-Show, this is a program to foster cultural competency within the Honors College through showcasing the different highlights of BOTH the African American and African culture. Through the program, we intended to emphasize that though this is Black History and there will be an emphasis on African & African American culture, people from different backgrounds within the college share more experiences and habits than what meets the eye. Through this program, we intended to uncover the eyes of not only our peers but ourselves, hopefully inspiring others to search beyond the walls of the college to discover new cultural experiences. We intended to have stations exploring black culinary art, hair, West African fashion, music, art, and civil rights as presented in Chattanooga. This program was extremely successful and my partner and I intend to make it a yearly event taking place during Black History Month. We actually submitted this project to the National Collegiate Honors Council and will be presenting it in November 2020.
