This was the writing and photography portfolio I submitted when I applied for the CSUN film school, which I was recently accepted into with an emphasis on Producing.
This photo series details the thought process of Nia Anderson deciding if she should go into work in order to meet her financial needs despite testing positive for COVID-19. Nia gets ready for work, putting on her name tag and disregarding her accumulating notices for late rent. Upon finding out that she has tested positive for COVID-19, she is forced to decide between revealing she is infected and facing a pay cut (providing an even larger financial burden), or to attend work for her full rate of pay but put others in danger. Following some research and seeing the increasing number of cases and deaths, Nia puts down her name tag and makes the decision to find other ways to meet her financial commitments. The series begins with a slightly desaturated yellow tint, transitions to green when she receives her test results, and concludes with colors becoming more saturated, displaying a slight blue tint. The green is a transition color, it represents the decision making period of the series. The green is so infectious, mimicking the behavior of the virus, that it changes the color of her tears and alters the lighting of the atmosphere. When considering going to work and not reporting her case, green light emits from the paper from her workplace and the statistics of death. It is only when she makes the decision to stay home that a normal color balance is restored to her life.
