Collaboration Image: Putting together a Puzzle
1 / 4
At the 2014 CATESOL Conference in Santa Clara, CA, I co-organized and presented on a panel consisting of an San Francisco State MA TESOL professor, three English for Academic Purposes (EAP) teachers, and myself - as their academic coordinator/supervisor at the American Language Institute at SF State.

The presentation demonstrated how a campus EAP program can work in collaboration with MA TESOL faculty to foster the growth of emerging teachers who wish to implement academic focused technologies in the classroom. By receiving guidance from their instructors and from their academic coordinator, teachers are able to enhance an existing curriculum within the English language classroom, ensuring engagement through activities and student generated content.

The impact of these types of collaborations serve to enhance the development of teachers, curriculum, and student learning. Through anchoring activities within current trends and theories in a reflective teacher development model of practical experience, these MA TESOL students were able to develop meaningful classroom projects in their EAP courses. With tech enhances and constructivist learning approaches, their English language students were able to develop language through authentic learning activities.
