The project I chose for this year’s annual Spring Learning Showcase was the Chemical Bonding Poster for the science/math category. The requirement for this assignment was to choose any medium (poster, brochures, PowerPoints, etc.) and create a creative and visual presentation of the topic we were learning about, Chemical Bonding. I specifically chose this project from the many other options was because I was most proud with this poster and I worked very hard on it, making it look very visually appealing.
The first ICLEAR I used to complete this assignment was Research. In order to complete this assignment, it is necessary to know what I’m presenting and the information I had to portray. I had to research on the three types of bonds; chemical bonds, metallic bond, and ionic bond. Afterwards, I have to create a presentation that visually portray this as well as examples of each. It was necessary to make everything look very obvious and appealing to the viewer for them to understand what is going on. I was able to learn the difference between the three different bonds as well as their place in the world.
The second ICLEAR I used to complete this poster was Application. It was important to apply all my knowledge of chemical bonding into this poster, not only for the audience to see but also for me to see how much I know about this topic. After looking over the notes taken in class as well as extra research, especially for specific examples, in order to have enough information to create my poster. Examples that I applied onto my posters were water (H2O), table salt (NaCl), and more to portray the three types of bonds. I learned that some bonds were easier to find and more common than others. This ICLEAR taught me how to correctly apply the information I acquired and visually show the viewers a simple way to look at the topic and easily understand the topic.
And lastly, the third ICLEAR I used to complete this assignment was linking. I was most thrilled about this project because it allowed me to incorporate my creative and artistic side to create a presentable poster. Not only did I draw out all the examples and illustrations required, I added my own personality by using a wide range of color palette and cute characters that stood for a certain molecule or atom and they were bonded together through a stick, as it should be. I also demonstrated a clearer image of the difference between the three bonds by creating a big table comparing and contrasting each one specifically. This ICLEAR taught me that I can be creative anywhere and anytime as long as I am up to the challenge. It was difficult for me to incorporate creativity into this poster because it was about science and I thought I wouldn’t be able to make it colorful; but I was able to accomplish this in the end.
