Self-assessment
What do you do well? I am a caring empathetic person that works well with children and their parents. I am creative and I like to have fun in the classroom.
What energizes you? I enjoy getting creative and working with children. When I see a lesson or activity that I have planned working well and the kids are having fun and learning, I feel energized.
If you knew you could not fail, what would you do? If I knew I could not fail I would continue teaching children and doing my best for them, but I would also start a non-profit organization for behavioral and mental health issues and therapy in my area. There is a high need for this in my area and most children are on a waiting list for months to get the help they need.
What subjects were you successful in during high school? In high school, I was successful in English. I enjoyed reading and Literature classes were my favorite.
What issues do family and friends come to you for help? Family and friends often call me for advice when dealing with behaviors for their children. I am always ready to listen and lend a helping hand and advice when I can.
What do you receive praise for at work or at home? I often receive praise for my creativity in the classroom at work. I am also complimented on my patience and loving nature when it comes to troubled children.
What are some of your greatest accomplishments? My greatest accomplishments are my children. I have raised two children who are now successful adults and I am proud of the people they have become. Another that I am proud of is my degree. I have my associate's degree in education and in a few months I will have my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education.
What is something you do where you lose track of time when you are doing it? When I am reading I often lose track of time. I enjoy getting engrossed in a good book. I also love crafts. When I am creating things I get in a certain mindset and I easily lose track of time.
Career Exploration
What careers in your field are you interest in? I am interested in Early Childhood Education.
Does the career you want pay a salary that meets your needs? The pay is not what it should be in education. Teaching is an extremely underpaid profession, and I hope someday teachers will be paid what they are worth.
Will you need any additional training or schooling? Once I graduate with my B.A. in Early Childhood Education I will not need any additional training.
Will it offer you opportunities to advance? My career at Head Start has a few opportunities for advancement if I would like to move on to the central office.
Is the career you are considering likely to exist when you are ready for a job? The career path I have chosen as a teacher will likely exist for a long time.
