In this lab we were tasked to design a bracket to hold a sensor given loads, a budget, various materials, and an allotted space. Using Mechanics of Materials principles, we determined the thickness and general shape. Then we used cost analysis to choose the least expensive material and manufacturing technique. Lastly, using SolidWorks and the built in Finite Element Analysis technique, we modeled the bracket and found the points of potential failure. I learned a lot about the steps in design and how to adapt to new changes.
