Is the bike generating current? Lets check it out!A group of engineering students built an aquaponics farm for the homeless outreach center in Pomona, California. The system design was modelled after the second system’s aquaponics farm at the Lyle Center in Cal Poly Pomona. One of the team’s main objectives was to research renewable energy methods as a way to provide meaningful power to pumps used in the aquaponics system. My team was provided with a wind turbine to test and determine whether or not it could be used to power these pumps. Wind power was the first source of energy that was researched because of an Aleko 500 Wind Turbine that was provided to the group. Because the wind turbine proved to not be feasible for the given power requirements, a bike power generator was researched, tested, and constructed.
