For our senior capstone, my classmates and I had the opportunity to put together an exhibition based on race in the visual arts at the Miami University Art Museum. Titled Reflections: Visual Constructions of Race, we collaborated with museum to curate an exhibition based on pieces we chose to represent personality identity and perceptions of those around us. Each of us chose 2-3 pieces to write the object labels for, and 1 piece to do a research project on. I wrote the object labels for: Donna Ferrato's Sioux Sisters, Pine Ridge Reservation 1995, SD; Elizabeth Catlett's Glory; and Jaune Quick-to-See Smith's Ode to Chief Seattle.
For my in depth project, I chose Donna Ferrato's Sioux Sisters photograph and based my research on the intersection between colonialism and domestic violence against Native American women.
