Ionic Liquids are molten salts having melting point below 100° C containing an Anion and a Cation. In the past decade, Ionic Liquids have shown a great potential to be used as lubricants or as additives in lubricants. In this study, Trihexyl(tetradecyl) phosphonium
bis(2,4,4-trimethylpentyl) phosphinate was used as a neat lubricant as well as an additive in lubricant to test its effect on reducing friction and wear volume.
