Developed the conceptual design for an all electric short-haul cargo aircraft with a team of six other aerospace engineering majors. The design criteria given was to design an all electric aircraft for a company looking to gain experience within the developing field of electric propulsion. As a team we had to establish requirements, research the best concept for the company to pursue, and then create a conceptual design of the aircraft. In addition to collective tasks and helping out team members with their respective tasks, I was in charge of the aerodynamic models used for estimating lift, drag, stability and performance qualities of the aircraft in certain flight conditions. I was also in charge of the 3D modeling using a combination of open vsp and solidworks. This task involved being in charge of the layout design. Stability qualities were calculated and monitored to drive the placement of components and their respective center of gravities. Throughout the year, the team had to present our status and design to aerospace companies such as Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin and Boeing.
