I-shaped Stent Prototype
1 / 5
Overview:
This is the senior capstone for my undergraduate career and lasted for two semesters. I collaborated with four other students to design processes to model and manufacture customized airway stents which reduces possibilities of material failure and displacement. This project was assisted by respiratory therapists at Cleveland Clinic. My main responsibility was prototyping 3D printed molds and stent using silicone, as well as documenting Design History Files.

Final Design:
Our final design addressed the problems of short life span and biocompatibility of current lung stent. We successfully developed a working software prototype to manipulate the 3D stent model, as well as a 3D printed stent mold prototype and molded silicone stent. The designed software and interface successfully passed verification testing for implemented stent modification functionality and visualization of the stent. The 3D printed molds and molded I, J and Y-shaped stents successfully passed verification testing of migration, mold reusability, and cost efficiency. The molds were vapor smoothed to remove the rough texture from 3D printing. We produced stents with liquid silicone by mimicking the injection molding process.
